2024-10-16 Honouring One of Our Own

Murray Harbour North, Prince Edward Island

mages

PEI RCMP and the PEI Division RCMP Veterans Association recently had the honour of dedicating a regimental headstone for one of our own - Constable Joyce Graham, originally from Gaspereaux, PEI. Cst. Graham served much of her career with the BC RCMP.

Cst. Graham joined the RCMP in 1977, and was one of the trailblazing group of women to join the Force when it opened recruiting to women police officers. This headstone acknowledges the 25-plus years of service she gave to the communities where she lived and worked.

At an event held with family members, along with the PEI Division RCMP Veterans Association, and PEI RCMP officers, Cst. Graham's new Regimental Headstone was unveiled at the Murray Harbour North Cemetery. Cst. Graham was fondly remembered by family, and her years of service were also recounted by PEI RCMP Sergeant-Major MacLean.

In 2024, the RCMP marks the 50th Anniversary of Women Police Officers and it is only fitting that we pay tribute to Cst. Graham along with all those women who serve today. Joining the RCMP is a career like no other. You become part of an extended and enduring family, that has the ability to care for you in many unexpected ways.
