2025-12-06  Last Post Fund, National Field of Honour  (Will Be Posted for 2 Weeks)

From James Lynch, National President, Last Post Fun

All:

Many of you are already aware that the Last Post Fund has formally requested that the Government of Canada assume ownership of the Last Post Fund National Field of Honour in Pointe-Claire, Quebec, Canada’s largest Veterans’ cemetery and a National Historic Site since 2007. For nearly a century the Last Post Fund has proudly maintained this sacred ground where veterans from Canada and 23 Allied nations rest.

Regrettably, a steady decline in pre-need reservations over the past decades has placed the continued operation of the National Field of Honour on an unsustainable financial footing, a situation well documented and understood by Veterans Affairs Canada.

On November 20, 2025, MP Annie Koutrakis (Vimy, Liberal) tabled a second e-petition (e-6951) in the House of Commons calling on the Government to honour its own 2025 election commitment (contained in the Liberal platform “Canada Strong”) by formally accepting ownership of the National Field of Honour.. This petition is now open for signatures.

Although only 500 validated signatures are required for the petition to be presented in the House of Commons, we owe it to the Veterans buried there to demonstrate overwhelming national support.

We therefore respectfully ask every member, friend, and supporter of the Last Post Fund to do two simple things:

1. Read and sign the petition yourself at the following official link: https://www.ourcommons.ca/petitions/en/Petition/Details?Petition=e-6951

2. Forward this message (or the direct link) to your branch members, family members, and any Canadian who believes our Veterans deserve this final act of respect.

Signing takes less than two minutes: click the link, fill in the short form, and confirm your email. Every validated Canadian signature counts.

Together we can ensure that the Government hears a clear and resounding message: the National Field of Honour must be preserved in perpetuity under the stewardship of the Government of Canada.

Thank you for your continued dedication to Canada’s Veterans and for helping us honour their legacy.

Lest we forget.
